DT6 Extraordinary settlement: your path to regularization

Requirements, conditions, and step-by-step application process

What is DT6 extraordinary settlement?

DT6 extraordinary settlement is one of the main pathways under Royal Decree 316/2026 to regularize your immigration status in Spain. It targets foreign nationals who have been continuously residing in the country for at least 5 months and meet at least one additional condition: having employment, dependent family members, or being in a vulnerable situation.

Unlike traditional processes, DT6 grants you provisional work authorization from the moment you submit your application, without waiting for a resolution.

Main DT6 requirements

  • Continuous residence: being in Spain for at least 5 consecutive months.

  • Meeting at least one additional condition: employment, dependent family, or vulnerability.

  • Be at least 18 years old.

  • Not hold any current residence or stay permit.

  • No criminal record in the last 5 years.

Additional DT6 conditions

Employment condition

Have an employment contract, formal job offer, or documented intention to work as an employee or self-employed. The contract does not need to be full-time or indefinite.

Family condition

Have minor children under your custody, children with disabilities, or family members (spouse, registered partner, ascendants or descendants) who depend on you economically and reside in Spain.

Vulnerability condition

Be in a vulnerable situation certified by a social entity registered in the Immigration Collaborators Registry. This includes victims of trafficking, exploitation, gender-based violence, or documented extreme poverty.

DT6 process timeline

  1. 1

Days 1-5: Compile documentation (contract, registration certificate, vulnerability certificate if applicable).

  2. 2

Day 6: Pay administrative fee (form 790-012) at authorized bank.

  3. 3

Day 7: Submit application at National Police Station or immigration office with original fee proof.

  4. 4

Day 1 of submission: You automatically obtain provisional work authorization.

  5. 5

1-3 months: Administration reviews documentation and resolves your case.

DT6 Work authorization

One of the key advantages of DT6 is that you receive provisional work authorization from the exact moment you submit your application. You don't need to wait months to legally practice your profession or start a business. This allows you to contribute to Social Security, sign employment contracts with legal protection, and access social rights.

Required documentation

  • Valid, expired passport, or registration certificate.

  • Employment contract (for employment condition) or company letter with job offer.

  • Registration in Spain proving the 5 consecutive months.

  • Vulnerability certificate (if applying under this condition).

  • Family documents (birth, marriage certificates) if applying under family condition.

Important points to remember

  • The deadline closes on June 30, 2026: no extension.

  • The administrative fee is paid directly to the Administration, not to lawyers or management companies.

  • Provisional authorization is valid even if Administration takes time to resolve.

  • Maintaining 5 consecutive months of residence is critical: any departure may interrupt the period.
